Nine Inch Nails Returns To Tour Your Face Off Again

NIN, Nine Inch Nails,

Trent Reznor has announced that he will hit the road with Nine Inch Nails after a four year hiatus. Beginning this summer and continuing into next year, the tour features a new lineup: Eric Avery (Jane’s Addiction), Adrian Belew (King Crimson), Josh Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv), Alessandro Cortini (SONOIO) and Ilan Rubin (Lostprophets).

Here is the word from Reznor himself:

Nine Inch Nails are touring this year.

I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked – which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.

The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me. The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the US this fall, and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014.

Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon.

Trent is also going on a short jaunt with his other band, How to destroy angels. Their debut LP, Welcome Oblivion, is scheduled to drop March 5th and is streaming now at Pitchfork.

How to destroy angels: New Videos

HTDA, How to destroy angels, Welcome oblivion, glitch

I’ve been on a music video binge for a while here, but I somehow missed not one but TWO new videos from Trent Reznor’s band How to destroy angels. I’ve written about them a bunch on this blog, and everything they do continues to be artistically stunning.

This video is for the song ‘How Long?’ from their forthcoming LP Welcome Oblivion, due March 5th. Directed by Shynola, the visuals are an extremely dark, cinematic, post-apocalyptic meditation on life and death, while the music features bitcrushed beats cut with pretty poppy vocals.

The second video is for ‘The Loop Closes,’ from last year’s An Omen EP. Here, hardcore lo-fi glitchy video sputters out into spectrum shards of color. Rob Sheridan and HTDA have truly outdone themselves with this clip!

HTDA will be making their live debut this year at Coachella.

Trent Reznor Spills News On NIN and Beats By Dre Collab

Trent Reznor, Nine Inch Nails, NIN, How to Destroy Angels, HTDA, Black Ops, Beats By Dre, Interscope, Daisy

It’s been an extremely productive time for Trent Reznor lately, with the recent release of his band How To Destroy Angels ‘An Omen’ EP, soundtrack work for the video game Black Ops, and murmurings of new Nine Inch Nails to come. The New Yorker ran a profile on Trent this week that outlines his plans to release a NIN greatest hits record with two new songs, followed by a new record.  And if that isn’t exciting enough for you, it seems he has another project up his sleeve.

Earlier this year, Reznor announced he was collaborating with Beats By Dre, but added mysteriously “It’s probably not what you’re expecting!” He reveals in the New Yorker that the project is actually a streaming music service called Daisy. Like Spotify or Rdio, Daisy uses algorithms to suggest music you might like based on what you already listen to. The difference, according to Trent, is that Daisy has a ‘connoisseur’ curation component, adding a human element he likens to “”having your own guy when you go into the record store, who knows what you like but can also point you down some paths you wouldn’t necessarily have encountered.”

What will be interesting to see is who these ‘connoisseurs’ will be (Toneluster is available for consultation 😉 Get @ me Trent!). Will it be Reznor and Dr. Dre themselves? Or interns at Interscope? Pitchfork? Or will placement go to the highest bidder?

Trent Reznor Reveals New How To Destroy Angels Info

ImageTrent Reznor released information regarding a new EP from his post-NIN project How To Destroy Angels via his facebook today. The band consists of his wife, Mariqueen Maandig, Rob Sheriden, and Atticus Ross, with whom Reznor worked on the scores for both The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon TattooHere is the message from the man himself:

Sorry for the radio silence lately… I’ve been busy! There’s a number of things to be revealed over the coming months. Some you may expect, others you may not. Patience, my friends.

Today’s news is about my band How To Destroy Angels. I’m happy to announce we’ve formally partnered with Columbia Records for our next series of releases. The first of these will be available in November and it’s called An Omen EP. As you may have guessed, it’s an EP. It contains six songs, some of which are from our full-length LP which is coming early next year.
We are making some videos, we are going to be performing live, and that’s all the details I have for now on those matters.

Regarding our decision to sign with Columbia, we’ve really spent a long time thinking about things and it makes sense for a lot of reasons, including a chance to work with our old friend Mark Williams. There’s a much more granular and rambling answer I could give (and likely will in an interview someplace) but it really comes down to us experimenting and trying new things to see what best serves our needs. Complete independent releasing has its great points but also comes with shortcomings. We are all very excited about you checking out the new stuff. Wish I could tell you more, but you know how this works… it would take all the fun out of it!

Stay tuned!
