Sound City Soundtrack: Grohl+Homme+Reznor’s Mantra

Sound City, Reel to Reel, Dave Grohl

Have you seen Dave Grohl’s film Sound City yet?

The soundtrack is coming out March 12th. It features a ridiculous cast of music legends, including Sir Paul McCartney, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear of Nirvana, who debuted their track “Cut Me Some Slack” at the Madison Square Garden Hurricane Sandy Benefit last year. Dave has been playing shows all over the world with different configurations of the loose collective he calls the Sound City Players, which will be making a stop at SXSW March 14th. Grohl is also the keynote speaker of the festival this year.

Watch this sweet behind-the-scenes video of Dave banging the skins, while Josh Homme slappa da bass and Trent Reznor tickles the ivories, as they record the epic 7+ minute ‘Mantra.’ The result is, predictably, a little bit Foo, with a dash of Queens, on a bed of Nails.

This is just the instrumental in its glorious birthing stage. The finished version has vocals on it.

Paul McCartney to Front Nirvana Reunion Tonight at Sandy Benefit

Paul McCartney

In a few short hours, Madison Square Garden NYC will host the massive 12-12-12 Sandy Benefit Concert featuring an all star cast of musical legends. Bruce Springsteen will open the  show at 7:30pm, Eddie Vedder will duet with Roger Waters,  and Sir Paul McCartney will close it out with Dave Grohl & “Friends,” Krist Noveselic and Pat Smear of Nirvana!

It’s the first time the members of Nirvana will all be playing together again in this configuration (they did reunite for some shows on the last Foo Fighters tour, but I don’t think Dave was on drums.) It will be interesting to see Sir Paul fronting the group, although I wonder if Kurt Cobain is rolling in his grave. I’m hoping the performance won’t be cringe-worthy. Reportedly, they will be performing a brand new song to boot.

Also appearing will be Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, The Rolling Stones, Kanye West, and The Who. The show will be broadcast on 34 tv stations and streaming online. Get all the details and find out how to donate here:
